We are delighted to welcome you to IMIL 2024 | 7th Edition of the IberoamericanMeeting on Ionic Liquids, held in Coimbra, Portugal, from November 20th to 22nd, 2024.

Coimbra is one of the country’s most historic cities, famous for its university, which is one of Europe’s oldest (it was founded in 1290).

Easily accessible by train or bus (from one to two hour) between the country’s two largest cities (Lisbon and Porto), it’s worth a visit not just for the monumental university but also for the ancient site of Conimbriga, which has some of Europe’s best-preserved Roman mosaics.

The University of Coimbra, distinguished as one of Portugal's and the world's most ancient academic institutions, endorses a singular mixture of historical significance and cultural heritage. The institution became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013, with a legacy extending over seven centuries. Known as 'the city of students,' chosen by D. Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal, as the first capital, Coimbra has a unique cultural legacy in academic traditions and scientific development.

Conference venue

The technical sessions for IMIL 2024 will take place at the Auditorium in the central buillding of Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (Pólo II), an ideal venue for fruitful discussions and conviviality between the conference participants.

Travel Information

Benefiting from Portugal's integration into the international airline network, accessibility is ensured from various global points. The closest airports to Coimbra, located in Lisbon (190 km away) and Porto (120 km away), afford convenient and frequent air travel connections."

Train, Bus and Shuttle are available to travel to Coimbra run almost every hour from Lisbon and from Porto. The journey takes approximately 2 hours from Lisbon and 1h30 from Porto. There are two railway stations in Coimbra: Coimbra A– Estação Nova, “The New Station” and Coimbra-B – Estação Velha, “The Old Station”. All trains stop at Coimbra B. Once there, there is a shuttle to Coimbra-A at the center of the city.

Buses:

From Coimbra city centre you can reach the Faculty of Sciences and Technology easily by taxi our uber (in between 5 to 10 EUR).

 

Accommodation

An array of hotels can be found inside or close to the historical city center, within a quick 5-minute taxi or Uber ride from the conference venue. A varied selection of comfortable accommodations should be available at convenient prices.

Currently, we have agreements with two hotels:
